The rules & a few useful moves
How to play Maze Madness
Find an open path. Send an arrow out. Make room for the next one.
Maze Madness is a free browser puzzle game with 1,210 levels. The goal is to clear each board by moving its arrows in the direction they point. A blocked arrow costs a heart, so the order you choose matters.
Mouse and touch controls
- Move an arrow: click or tap it to try to send it out.
- Preview a path: hold an arrow, check its direction, then release to make the move.
- Move the board: drag an empty area.
- Zoom: use the mouse wheel on a computer or a two-finger gesture on a touch screen.
- Get a hint: when the Hint button appears, select it to highlight an arrow you can remove.
- Show path guides: use the # button.
- Restart: the Home button restarts the current level. If you run out of hearts, use Restart to try again.
- Change the sound: select the speaker button to turn game effects on or off.
Tips for solving an arrow puzzle
Follow the direction before tapping
Trace the route from the arrowhead to the edge of the board. A nearby gap is only useful if the arrow can travel through it in its own direction.
Look for the move that opens another route
Removing one arrow can free the space another needs. When several arrows are blocked, look for the arrow at the end of that chain that already has a clear exit.
Use the view controls on larger boards
Zoom out to see the whole puzzle, then zoom in to choose an arrow. Path guides and the hold-to-preview control help you check a route before committing.
Try a different order after restarting
You can replay the current level when you run out of hearts. Look for a different opening move, or use Hint to find an arrow with an available path.
Levels and saved progress
Clear a level to advance through the 1,210-level sequence. After the last level, Play Again starts a new run from level one.
Your browser saves your current level and sound preference. Refreshing or returning to the site starts you at the beginning of that saved level, rather than restoring every move on the board.
Use the same browser and website to keep your progress. Saves do not sync across devices or browsers. Clearing site data removes them; if browser storage is unavailable, progress can only be kept for the current session.
Play in your browser
No app download or account is needed. Use a current browser with JavaScript and WebGL enabled. The game supports mouse and touch input, with layouts for portrait and landscape screens.
